The Legend of Sidri is an illustrated middle grade picture book out on the 26th September 2019.
In the mythical realm of Badalonium, a young boy named Sidri lived happily with his beloved parents. But the family is shattered by an evil figure from the afar, triggering a series of events that lead Sidri on a journey of self-development, friendship, family reunions and retribution.
I was kindly gifted a copy of The Legend of Sidri by the publisher and author. The Legend of Sidri is a fantastic fantasy book. It is an epic adventure tale involving animals, magic and the courage of Sidri as he aims to reunite his family and save his mother. As an adventure story for children it is perfect, with whimsical made up words and magical illustrations, even younger children will get drawn into the story with the pictures and bright colours. Sidri is a great ‘role model’ character, he is very kind but also a strong willed main protagonist, which I think is a credit to the imagination of the author. You wouldn’t mind all children’s book characters to be like Sidri as he would set a good example.
You get easily swept along in the journeying adventure the characters go on, and as it is only about 40 pages is isn’t too long or too short for a book of this type, if you are looking to introduce the fantasy genre to children then start with The Legend of Sidri! There is a beautifully illustrated map as well, I enjoyed reading this myself, but I will also be reading it with younger members of my family as they will most definitely adore this!
As an aside, I also think it could be incorporated into lessons for teachers as well about kindness as the Sidri is a main character that a lot can be learnt from also to use as an introduction to fantasy books and to get kids reading different things.
Overall, I really enjoyed The Legend of Sidri it is a perfect middle grade read with a convincing story, beautiful illustrations and wonderful characters. I would highly recommend if you have children as you will love spending time with them whilst reading it together.
