    March Currently Reading

    March 30, 2018

It's already March 30th, Happy Easter Weekend! with the end of March nearing, it is about time I do a March Currently Reading...

The first book I am reading (and nearly finished) is Mackenzi Lee's 'The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue'. "Henry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions—not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men. But as Monty embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy. Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores" It is very witty, historical and just a lot of fun but so well written and with loveable characters.

The Second Book is 'Misogynation' by Laura Bates. "Laura Bates, pioneering feminist, activist and bestselling author, has given voice to hundreds of thousands of women through her international Everyday Sexism Project. Drawing attention to both hidden and blatant sexist acts and attitudes, Laura has exposed the startling truth behind misogyny in our society: systemic, ingrained and ignored. One hundred years since some women were first given the right to vote, we are still struggling to get to grips with the true extent of gender inequality that continues to flourish in our society. In this collection of essays, originally published in the Guardian, Laura Bates uncovers the sexism that exists in our relationships, our workplaces, our media, in our homes and on our streets, MISOGYNATION joins the dots to reveal the true scale of discrimination and prejudice women face. So far, I am also loving 'Misognyation'. I really enjoy the way it is written in article format as it makes the subject more accessible and Laura's writing is so concise. A definite must-read.

The third and final book is 'Witch Born' by Nicholas Bowling. "Alyce's mother has just been burnt at the stake for practicing witchcraft. With only a thin set of instructions and a witch's mommet for guidance, Alyce must face the world that she's been sealed off from -- a world of fear and superstition. With a witch hunter fast on her trail, she'll need the help of an innkeeper and a boy looking to discover the truth behind his own mother's past. But as her journey continues, another war rages: a hidden war of the supernatural, of the living and the dead. Good and evil are blurred, and nobody's motives can be trusted. And Alyce finds herself thrown unwillingly into the conflict." It is a dark and very witchy debut novel. I have only read about 30 pages of this novel, but already hooked on the suspense of it! (The front cover is stunning!)
