A heartwarming, romantic and Christmassy novel set in the gorgeous Cornish village of Conwenna Cove.
Not my first (and hopefully not my last) read by Darcie Boleyn, this is the feel-good christmas book you need to read this year!
'When Grace Phillips travels to Conwenna Cove to help her parents move there, 30 years after their honeymoon in the village, she sees why they fell in love with the place. The festive decorations, carols in the air and constant supply of delicious mince pies certainly make it hard to leave. As Grace meets local vet Oli Davenport she initially finds him rude, but learning more about his passion for animals and how much he cares for his two kids helps Grace to see a softer side to Oli. The sparks fly but both Oli and Grace are holding onto fear about letting someone into their heart. As the snow falls and Christmas wishes come true can Conwenna Cove work its magic and help Grace and Oli find the happiness they both deserve?'
A first point I would like to make is although this is the second novel set in Conwenna Cove, it works perfectly as a christmas standalone and is absolutely wonderful to read this time of year. So if you haven’t read the first book you won’t be affected. With that in mind fans of Summer at Conwenna Cove will love that we can pick up on familiar names and faces in this book.
Our main character Grace is only in Conwenna Cove to help her parents settle into Rosehip Cottage, and then intends on going back to her flat in Cardiff, however she spends more time in Cornwall and finds herself drawn to it, since the community is so warming and friendly.
Our other main character, Oli, is a widower with young children and also the local vet. Grace’s first encounter with Oli doesn’t go too smoothly to say the least, but Grace and Oli soon strike up a friendship. However, Oli’s wife died two years ago and Grace’s brother died of a possible hereditary condition, meaning she doesn’t strike up relationships as she has vowed to never having children. But as the christmas period starts and the most wonderful time of years begins they get closer. Are Oli and Grace willing to risk broken hearts for a potentially magical christmas?
Not only are the characters lovable and exciting and this novel as a whole so wonderfully written and warming, the animals are cute and fluffy as well! Kittens looking for a new home, and a greyhound called Hope. All have emotional and cute moments within the novel.
Such a moving story with well-rounded and relatable characters, set in a warming community. Parts made me emotional and parts made me laugh. Highly enjoyable and very christmassy, this novel will leave you feeling ready for the christmas season!
